Kicking Horse, Help!

Kicking Horse, Help!

Postby jarew » Sat Sep 26, 2009 8:24 pm

Hi everyone, I am a paddler from ontario and I am hoping to run the kicking horse tomorrow (sunday the 27th) probably in the mid-morning to early afternoon. I went searching for put ins and take outs earlier today and I think i found the put in for the lower canyon (down a gravel switch back road, im assuming the road raft companies use) but Im not so sure about the lower-lower put in. I stopped at a pullover where there was an ATV trail entrance...could this be the lower-lower put in? Also, Im wondering about the nature of the river. When I hear the word canyon I think of unportageable sections...does this ring true with the Kicking horse? I was going to take my girlfriend along but she is a less experienced paddler and I want to make sure shes not going to be stuck running something to difficult for her becasue she can't get around it. Any thoughts and suggestions for this river would be awesome...also anyone wanting to go would be welcome. Furthermore...is there a put in for the middle canyon or do you have to go all the way to beaverfoot road and do the upper as well? And if anyone knows how long on average would it take to do each section? Thanks anyone and everyone.

Cheers,

Drew

This site has a river guide with alot of helpful info. You will fing the kicking horse under the kootenays section of the river guide with good descriptions of all of its sections.
